Speeding fines in Belgium: the complete guide

How the Belgian radar system works

Belgium uses a mix of fixed cameras, mobile police radars and unmarked police vehicles. All readings include a standard correction of 6 km/h deducted from the measured speed. This means a camera in a 50 km/h zone will only issue a fine from 56 km/h upwards.

The 30 km/h zone in Brussels

Since 2021, the Brussels Capital Region has applied a default 30 km/h speed limit on virtually all urban roads. Exceptions (50 km/h) apply only on a limited number of arterial roads. Foreign drivers are frequently caught unaware by this change.

In built-up areas, the on-the-spot fine starts at €53 for up to 10 km/h over the limit and increases by €11 for each additional km/h.
