Vehicle removal: For particularly dangerous or obstructive parking, the police can have your vehicle towed at your expense. Recovery fees plus storage charges apply.
Parking fines vs administrative charges
In Belgium, there are two distinct types of parking penalty:
- Traffic fines (Code de la route) — processed by the public prosecutor
- Administrative parking fees (RDE) — managed directly by the municipality (Brussels, Ghent, Antwerp etc.)
Administrative parking fees are not criminal matters. They are contested differently, directly with the municipality concerned.
